Prices
Most Services Provided by Pohlen Hospital are either fully or partially subsidised by the government through our contracts with Waikato DHB.
Other health service providers on our site (such as the GPs, Consultants, X-ray ) will most likely require some form of payment.

Hospital level Aged Care
Access to this service requires two assessments: the first a clinical assessment by the Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC) Agency which, in the Waikato, is Disability Support Link (DSL). This assessment identifies the level of care required, whether it be hospital Level Care or Rest home care
Once the clinical assessment has taken place the family need to be in touch with WINZ and organise the financial assessment or asset test which will determine the level of subsidy to be provided by the government and thus the fee required to be paid by the patient or their family.
Pohlen cannot advise what the fee will be until this process is complete. The maximum contribution that a family will pay is set by the government and is modified from time to time as is set out in the government gazette.
Rest Home Care
Whilst not actually a Rest Home, Pohlen is certified to provide rest home care. We maintain this level of certification so that we can accommodate couples who might otherwise be split if they have been assessed as requiring different levels of care.
The assessment process is the same as that for hospital level care, and again, Pohlen is unable to advise what the actual level of subsidy or fee might be. The Maximum will be the maximum as defined in the Government Gazette.
Palliative Care
Once an assessment has taken place and Pohlen Hospital has been advised by DSL that palliative care is required there will be no charge for this service.
GP Bed
If the patient is admitted to Pohlen Hospital via their doctor there will be no fee charged for the first 5 to 7 days of the inpatient stay, however medication that is not specific to the reason for admission will be charged for. A single extension of up to 7 days may be requested from the District Health Board, however longer periods would incur a private patient charge.
Transitional Care
Patients are referred and sent by Waikato Hospital to Pohlen Hospital. There will be no fee charged for the inpatient stay, however if the patient is transferred by ambulance between Waikato and Pohlen Hospitals there will be a fee from St John’s Ambulance.
Rehabilitation & Exercise area
This is free to use at your own Risk. You need to sign a consent form (one off process, form kept on file) and be shown how to use the equipment safely.
Maternity Care
There is no charge for the mother and baby, however if your partner or another support person stays over there will be a charge for their meals.
Private inpatient Care
Matamata Residents - $175 + GST
Non Matamata Residents - $350 + GST
Acute Home Support
There is no fee for this service

$22 per hour + GST
